in 2020 when the world shut down, LAUNA began experimenting with oils on wood panel. LAUNA spent parts of her childhood working on her family lobstering boat, deep in the Atlantic. A special kind of silence exists 100 miles into the ocean, surrounded by nothing but sky line and water. It's a sublime - beautiful but terrifying experience that in some way, reflected the experience of the pandemic in New York City. The silence, the fear, and the strange still beauty of NYC with nobody in it.

This painting is the beginning of a series that is a work in progress - a reflection on the last few years and how we are all traversing unknown waters.
